Artist’s copyrights- do you and I need one?

As promised in an earlier blog post,
I am attaching some information I found about copyrights for visual fine artist. I have read the information and, if you are any sort of artist or (as they say now) creative, you should read the information too. I am NOT a lawyer so I cannot give you a legal opinion about this. What I can tell you is that I work as a paralegal for nearly two decades and in my personal opinion, it looks like things have progressed to the point that we artist should be dealing with the United States Copyright Office everytime we put a piece of art artwork out there in the world for people to view. I don’t know about you, but I have been putting the little copyright “c in a circle” © with the year creation in my work for many years now.

But I no longer feel confident about is whether or not that little copyright mark of mine is enough. Have I been putting my artwork — which took so many hours to create, which took my heart and soul and toward  it out on the canvas — out there for the world to claim as its own in whole or in part?!5720&authkey=!AJf9X9LYE-9dYVA&ithint=folder%2c
